There is a very interesting piece on Tim Ferriss' blog about the benefits of pissing people off. In my experience the most effective people in business are those who have a vision, see what it can be, and make the necessary moves to make it happen without too many rules and without necessarily asking for permission up front. These people at times piss others off but these people also get things done and lead when other are afraid to make any move whatsoever outside of what they perceive as the norm or acceptable. This doesn't mean you piss people off for the sake of it but rather at times in order to get things done it's simply a by product. Tim has a line in this article that I love which is "doing anything remotely interesting will bring criticism". While grace is a virtue, fearlessly paving away is how things get built.
