Great Travel Advice in Under 2 Minutes

Anthony Bourdain is great at what he does.  You know when you watch him, or when he’s behind the grill you’re on hand for a good experience if not a memorable one.  But he offered some good travel advice for those who head overseas that I thought would fit in nicely here with the overall theme of Anthidote.com

Tour the world in 80 seconds

It’s Sunday night.  I’m in a light mood.  Saw this very cool video put out there by Sony to promote one of their cameras.  Go around the world in 80 seconds. Cool marketing piece.

Great Quote

Georgewashington

I came across this quote recently which I think is just excellent.  It is credited Adrian Rogers.

“ You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ”

Xiao Long Bao

I  was working last week in Shanghai (MFG.com) and had the chance to experience something unique and delicious.  Xiao Long Bao (dumplings) right on the street.  If you find yourself in Shanghai or elsewere perhaps in China you need to try this.  For only something like $2 you can get served 5 large Xiao Long Bao from the front window of the stall.  Xiao Long Bao are like large round ravioli balls with pork inside and a small amount of scalding hot broth.  We ordered on the street and took them upstairs to the communal tables at this particular place and threw them back with a nice bottle of Tsing Tao.  Here's a shot form the place we ate.

Colombia

I have been on the road for the past two weeks in Colombia, South America.  Many people have a singular impression of Colombia but it is today quite different that the impression you may be under.  Medellin is happening and the flights to Bogota are full of Americans going for business.  I can see tourism growing in Colombia over the next decade and more good news coming out of Colombia as the country opens up to the world.

Hotel J.K.Place, Capri, Italy

I have been to Capri a bunch of times both as a tour guide and also just on my own for fun.  Capri is just a great little island full of cool nooks and paths to take, basil, tomato, and mozzarella panini, and limoncello (rough life).  Here however is a hotel that is now officially on the Anthidote “Hit List” of places to visit.  The Hotel J.K. Place.  Check out the site and tell me you don’t want to spend a few nights here.
